It has been an absolute pleasure being the new principal at Scurry-Rosser Elementary School.  We are off to an amazing start, and we have already accomplished so much!  Before the school year began, many teachers and parents helped decorate the campus with our safari theme “SRES is WILD About Learning.”  Thank you to all who came out to help transform our school into a fun and inspiring learning environment.  The students love seeing all the decorations each and every day!

September has been full of learning and activities.  We had the pleasure of serving our grandparents during our Grandparent Luncheon.  We had a huge turnout, and it was an honor to meet the proud grandparents of our students.  Lots of photographs were taken that day, and you can go to our district Facebook page to download photos.  Thank you to all who attended and made this day special for the students.

Our Friday Spirit Days have been a huge success.  Thank you for allowing your child to participate in the fun while also supporting our S-R Wildcats!  We will have more spirit days throughout October so be sure to plan accordingly!

Third grade students also had the pleasure of having Mr. Norman Baldwin come out and give them a lesson on the American flag.  He taught them about the meaning of the flag, how to raise and lower it, and also how to correctly fold the flag.  Each week 4 third grade students will be chosen for the “Third Grade Safari Crew,” and these students will be helping with morning announcements and with also putting up and taking down the flags each day.

Our kindergarten, first, and second grade students have been busy with TPRI testing during September.  This is an assessment that gives us information about your child’s reading skills.  Information will be shared with parents in the near future.   Testing for DRA reading levels will also be administered during the beginning of October.   This assessment will allow us to understand your child’s reading behaviors, comprehension, and what level he/she is reading on.  This information will also be shared with parents.

Reading is definitely a priority at Scurry-Rosser Elementary School.  It is very important that your child is reading each evening and completing any homework that is brought home. October will be full of reading events and activities.  The book fair will be coming to our campus the week of October 16th!!  This is a great time to stock up on books for your children.  During this week we will also have a Family Literacy Night at our campus on Tuesday, Oct. 17th.  On this evening all grade levels will be sharing literacy activities with parents to use at home with their children.  The activities will also be a great way to help promote reading at home.  We are looking forward to all the learning and fun the month of October will bring to SRES!!
